Junior Year Semester 1

Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve written on my blog, so I wanted to give an update on Junior year.

This semester, I have started an Undergraduate Research Assistant position in an OSU research lab. In the lab, our focus is on the Ras (Ras-Raf-MEK-ERK) Pathway. Components of this pathway are fundamental for cancer. Overall, I really enjoy the lab and my experience so far as I get to work with C. Elegans. Through the lab, I have become more experienced with PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, and Cell Transformations. Additionally, I have learned how to be patient with experimentation, analyzing results, and familiarizing myself with new cancer genes.

Outside of research, I am a Peer Mentor for a Biological Sciences Survey class. I absolutely love this experience and am so thankful for the opportunity to talk to Freshmen about Pre-Health tracks. My main role as a Peer Mentor is to help Freshmen with scheduling, major decisions, and college extracurriculars. Through this experience, I have met Peer Mentors with a variety of Pre-Health backgrounds. Some of these backgrounds are Pre-Dent, Pre-PA, and Pre-Med. I am extremely grateful to have these individuals as co-Peer Mentors.

In terms of school, I have finalized my General Psychology minor and am extremely happy with my decision to pick up this minor. Next semester, I will be starting my third Psych class called Behavioral Neuroscience which I can’t wait for. Additionally, next semester, I will start studying for the MCAT, dive deeper into research, and continue volunteering at the Wexner Medical Center (Surgery-Prep room).

I can’t wait to see how the rest of this semester goes and I look forward to focusing on the MCAT soon!
